INTERIOR PAINTING
1. CHOOSING THE RIGHT FINISH:
Flat
Flat paints
tend to conceal imperfections in walls,
ceilings and other surfaces better than
paints with higher sheen levels. As a
result, if your walls are banged up or
otherwise rough, a flat paint will help hide
some of these problems.
|
Satin
Satin is more
lustrous than flat finishes. Because of
this, they tend to impart more warmth and
depth to a room than do flat paints... and
they resist stains better. Satin finishes,
however, usually require two or more coats
to cover.
Semi-Gloss
Semi-gloss
paints are a popular choice for walls in
homes where there are young children. The
reason? They offer good stain resistance and
are much easier to clean than either flat
paints or satin finishes. Keep in mind,
however, that the glossier the finish, the
more the imperfections in your walls will
show. |
Gloss
High gloss paints have an almost reflective
quality, as their shiny finish mimics the
look of enamel or plastic. Tough not widely
used in home interiors, it is becoming more
popular for a dramatic look on cabinets,
trim, and furniture in very formal and very
contemporary settings. This finish will
magnify any surface imperfections, so
careful preparation and sanding is essential
before painting with high gloss paints |

4. PRIME:
Priming is generally recommended to promote adhesion
and the durability of the topcoat. Areas to prime:
◦
All uncoated surfaces
◦
Wallpaper
◦
Patched/repaired areas
◦
Paneling
◦
Stained areas
◦
Existing oil-based paint
◦
Dramatic changes in color
5. APPLICATION:
Generally we apply
one coat of paint, however this may increase
depending upon color & sheen selection, condition
of the existing paint and customer preference. On
walls, we cut in around the edges using a brush,
then roll the body of the wall with a paint roller.
We paint trim with a brush. |
